Install
Mac
- Download the build for your Mac:
- Apple Silicon (M1 and later)
- Intel
- Open the
.dmgand drag Seedmux into Applications. - Open Seedmux. It's signed and notarized, so macOS opens it like any other app.
Requires macOS 13 Ventura or later. Older builds are on the releases page.
Allow the background service
The first time you open Seedmux, macOS asks whether Seedmux may run in the background. Allow it. The background service is what keeps your sessions alive when the app is closed and what your iPhone talks to.
If you turned it off by accident, switch it back on in System Settings › General › Login Items (under Allow in the Background).
tmux
Seedmux keeps your panes alive through quits and crashes with the help of tmux. If you already have it (for example from Homebrew), there's nothing to do. If not, Settings › Terminal shows Install tmux…. Without tmux, Seedmux still works as a normal terminal — sessions just end when you quit.
Updates
Seedmux checks for updates on its own. When a new version is out, the update window appears once you stop typing for a moment. Updating never interrupts running agents — they keep going while Seedmux restarts.
iPhone
The iPhone app is in public beta on TestFlight:
- Install TestFlight from the App Store.
- Open the invitation: Join the Seedmux beta.
- Install Seedmux and pair it with your Mac.
Requires iOS 18 or later.
Linux servers
You don't need to install anything by hand. Add the server in Settings › Remote Hosts and click Check & Set Up — Seedmux puts what it needs on the server over SSH. See Remote hosts.
For a machine you can't reach over SSH (a sandbox, a container), run this on the machine itself:
curl -fsSL https://github.com/wishworldbetter/seedmux/releases/latest/download/install-linux.sh | shLinux hosts keep themselves up to date automatically.
